Would Celie support a boycott of the Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia?

              In the novel, Celie has a very complicated love life as she is unwillingly married off to Mr. Johnson, and at the same time has a sexual connection with Shug, who is also Mr. Johnson’s lover (Walker).  Therefore, the only person Celie ever acquires a sexual attraction to is Shug, hence she is either a lesbian or bi-sexual. Alphonso, Celie's step father, beats and rapes her consistently when she is younger, and they eventually have two kids together. Alphonso takes the babies away to the woods each time and supposedly kills them, which completely devastates Celie. This could be a reason why Celie ends up being a lesbian, because after her step-father raped her, Celie feels that she can never trust another man. So if she wanted to take part in the Russian Olympics, Celie would have to lie about her feelings towards the same sex and throw away the freedom she would acquire in 21st century America. Thus, there is no possibility she would support Russia’s antigay laws during the 2014 winter Olympics.
