1.     “His lashes open and his eyes meet mine. ‘Careful,” he says weakly. ‘There’s a force field ahead.’ I laugh, but there are tears running down my cheeks.” This quotation displays the author’s writing style as having a very emotional tone throughout the book. She could have just said how Peeta ran into the force field, but instead included how their eyes meet, and while Katniss is laughing at his joke, she is also crying from the emotional scarring of the Hunger Games.

Katniss says, “I can see Finnick’s eyes, green in the moonlight. I can see them as clear as day. Almost like a cat’s, with a strange reflective quality. Maybe because they are shiny with tears.” This quotation shows how the author has excellent diction while writing the novel. Her choice of descriptive words, such as moonlight or reflective, make it so the reader is not just looking at writing on pages, but each sentence imprints a different imagine in the persons mind.

2.     Katniss Everdeen transformed from being a regular nobody to a massive iconic Mockingjay(A)(M) throughout the course of the novel. Her emotions and outlook on life change very slowly(US), like an atomic bomb of rebelling(A) spreading over the nation(S). The Games changed her from being an uninteresting girl to a woman with a purpose and a goal of overthrowing the capitol.

1.     – On page 169 Haymitch Abernathy says, “The idea that Thirteen has somehow rebounded and the Capitol is ignoring it? That sounds like the kind of rumor desperate people cling to.” This quotation displays a conflict in the story weather or not Katniss should try to run away before the reeping when she will be taken back to the Capitol for her second Hunger Games. She would run away in hopes of finding a rebel filled land in district 13, but if she gets there and it is ruble and ash like the Capitol says, then she will most likely die there with no chance of returning.

-         Katniss says, “If I can make it clear that I’m still defying the Capitol right up to the end, the Capitol will have killed me…but not my spirit. What better way to give hope to the rebels?” This Quote shows that Katniss believes there is zero chance of her and Peeta making it out of the arena alive, so the conflict is what can she do in the little time she has left to give the rebels enough motivation to rebel against the capitol.

2.     – “Katniss convinces Haymitch to keep Peeta alive in the arena, but Peeta also convinces Haymitch to keep Katniss alive.” The two opposition forces are Katniss and Peeta both wanting to keep each other alive.

-         “Katniss cannot talk in private as the Capitol can hear everything she says.” The two opposition forces are Katniss and the Capitol as the Capitol won’t let Katniss keep any secrets of rebelling.

-         “Katniss is in love with Gale and Peeta at the same time.” The forces in opposition are Katniss and her confused love life with Gale and Peeta.

-         “Katniss gets stuck outside of district 12 from the electric fence” the forces in opposition are Katniss and the head peace keeper trying to do everything he can to get her in trouble.

-         “Katniss and Peeta can’t decide who to befriend out of the victors.” The forces in opposition are Katniss vs Peeta, because they each have different opinions on who they should get as allies.

1.      -    Katniss says, “Im sorry about screaming at you yesterday. You’ve seen how people, are when someone they love is in pain.” This quote shows how Katniss’s emotions can get out of hand, but that she always eventually sees what she did was wrong, and can acknowledge it. Also, it displays how Katniss is very protective about the people she loves, and will not let anyone hold her back to defend them.

           -   Peeta says to Katniss, “You know, I think this is the first time we’ve ever done anything normal together.” This quote displays how Katniss always lives in chaos, trying to find a way out of her hectic life. Katniss never has the time be a regular girl, because her life is constantly controlled by the capitol, who watches everything she does.

2.     1275MJ the first number, 12, stand for the fact that Katniss Everdeen lives in and represents district 12 in the Hunger Games. Then after that the 75 stands for how she is going to attend the 75 Hunger Games for the second time, or the third Quaterqull where only victors compete. Finally the MJ stands for a mocking jay, which is Katnisses pin that she wore in the first Hunger games. It turns into an iconic symbol of revolution, rebelling, and freedom, that everyone who is fighting the Capitol wears.

1.     Page 19, paragraph 5: “My advisors were concerned you would be difficult, but you’re not planning on being difficult, are you?” President Snow says this to the protagonist, Katniss, and this quotation displays a setting that shows if Katniss does not do exactly as President Snow wishes, her life will be in great danger. This puts a lot of pressure on Katniss to succeed, but also displays how little freedom she has to do what she wishes.

Page 92, paragraph 3: “A mockingjay is a creature the capitol never intended to exist. They hadn’t counted on the highly controlled jabberjay having the brains to adapt to the wild, to pass on its genetic code, to thrive in a new form. They hadn’t anticipated its will to live.” This quotation shows that there is a chance for rebelling all over the districts is very high. The mockingjay is a symbol that is worn by people who go against the capitol, and can be found in every setting in the book. When Katniss says, “They hadn’t anticipated its will to live,” she is referring to the capitol thought they had shut down all hopes and chances of rebelling, but underestimated the citizens wills to live.

2.     - The fence surrounding District 12 is an interesting object in the novel, as it shows that they are trapped in this geographical location, with no way of escaping to the world beyond the fence. Katniss does go past the fence to hunt sometimes, but all she can find is wilderness. This causes a mood in District 12 of people being trapped, with no possibility of change in their lives.

-  Katniss’s old house shows just how poor everyone in district 12 is considering they are above average there, and the house has a dirt floor, and is very small. This makes the general mood in district 12 slightly depressing, but not horrible, because the people living there seem to except the fact that this is their life, and make the most of it.

- The Capitol shows that this time period must takes place in the future, as the technology surpasses anything we have today. For example, the ability to create holograms, creating completely new animals by cross breeding and the huge, amazingly build buildings.

- The mockingjay pin that Katniss wears demonstrates the environment of the characters, by giving them hope through any hard times. It is a symbol of freedom and rebelling against the capitol.
